If you want to work in the construction industry, our Foundation Learning Programme will give you the basic construction skills you need to move on to an apprenticeship, employment or further training.



Our fully equipped workshop has a wide variety of professional machine tools & dedicated work benches. Our Construction tutors are highly trained and can also offer you the best career guidance and support. We will register and enter you for your CSCS card as well as City & Guilds qualifications.

Operatives are practical, multiskilled people who do not specialise in any single trade but can turn their hand to many tasks. Jobs include:

  • Construction operatives or labourers
  • Construction plant operators (operate machinery used in construction)
  • Demolition operatives
  • Road workers
  • Water distribution / sewerage operators (treat and clean water at wastewater or sewerage)

There are no set entry requirements but some employers will ask for a few GCSEs or equivalent qualifications. Because of the dangerous nature of some of the work many employers will not take on operatives who are under 18.



Crafts people specialise in one practical trade. Jobs include:

  • Bricklayers
  • Carpenters and joiners
  • Carpet fitters
  • Cavity wall insulators
  • Ceiling fixers
  • Electrical Installation
  • Engineering construction craft workers (erect and maintain buildings, plant and machinery)

We have a good partner relationship with BAM construction - a leading UK construction services company based in Kings Cross, employing more than 2,600 staff, where we can help progress the careers of our learners. In the past we have had successful applicants from Camden Jobtrain in various construction projects in London.

As with all of our vocational training courses, you will also receive Functional Skills Learning - English, Maths, ICT & PSD at our training centre nearby on Kentish Town Road.

Entry Requirements: You must be between 16 and 18 years of age. If you are 19-24 years of age and want to be considered for this programme you need to contact Connexions to see if you may be eligible.
