The NTV project is for young people aged 14-16 who are not settled in school (key stage 4)
Newturn Ventures offers an alternative accredited curriculum with intensive support from qualified staff. Our new centre in Regis Road, Kentish Town is fully DDA compliant, safe, bright and spacious, offering the best possible learning environment.
The aims of the project are:
- To meet DCSF, L.E.A.s and Schools' requirements for Alternative Provision
- Re-engage young people dis-applied from the National Curriculum at key stage 4
- Motivate young people to achieve and progress
- Progressing students from year 10 into year 11, and in turn onto further education, employment or apprenticeship
Students choose subject areas according to their interests, abilities, and intended career aims. An individual learning plan is prepared and carried out within well equipped workshops and classrooms.
Buiilding good relationships with the students as individuals is at the heart of the NTV project
All stakeholders are kept informed of the student's development in all aspects of curricula activities. There are scheduled and formalised reports of student attendance and progress.
The curriculum focuses on a range of learning opportunities including:
- English GCSE
- Literacy Awards from Entry 1 to Level 2
- Mathematics GCSE
- Numeracy Awards from Entry 1 to Level 2
- PSHE & Employability
- Information Technology
- Physical Education
- Careers Education & Guidance (provided by Camden Connexions)
- Drama
- Possibility of short courses including - First Aid, Health & Safety, Manual Handling.
Vocational Experiences
Construction Skills
In our very own well-equipped workshops students will gain practical construction skills while having the chance to gain the City & Guilds 6217-01 Construction Multi-crafts Award. Skills include: Painting & Decorating, Plastering, Bricklaying, Carpentry & Joinery, Electrics, Plumbing, and Safety for Sites.
Motor-Mechanics
In our own garage workshop students will learn to work on and repair cars and motorbikes. They can achieve a Level 1 Award or Certificate in Motor Vehicle Repair, which includes: tyre and exhaust fitting, ignition systems, cooling systems, identifying components and parts, basic servicing, brakes, lubricants and much more.
Art & Design
Students will develop skills in drawing, mixed media, printmaking, textiles, graphic design and sculpture. This is carried out in a bright and inspiring room at NTV's stunning new premises. Students will get the chance to achieve the BTEC 1st Certificate in Art & Design.
Retailing
In Jobtrain's own amazing fashion boutique "Aspire@jobtrain" students will learn retail skills selling top quality fashion. The experience will cover customer service, stock taking, window displays and shop floor work. Students can work towards City & Guilds Retail skills Award or Certificate at Level 1.
Sports and Recreation
Edexcel BTEC Level 1 Introductory Certificate in Sport & Leisure is available where students will cover units including: The healthy body, Issues in sport & leisure, Personal effectiveness and Customer service. Activities include: football, table-tennis, volleyball, badminton, fitness training and tennis.
