Camden Jobtrain is well known for providing good quality one-to-one support to young people.

Without it many would simply 'drop out' of their learning or be unable to concentrate on their training programmes. Similarly many young people would not reach their aims in life without the confidence to realise their own strengths, know their rights and responsibilities and have an idea about what being a citizen involves.

In order to support all of our young people and help keep them in learning we employ a Student Support Officer.

Our Officer works closely with each of the Tutors here at Jobtrain - most of all the 'Keyworkers' who each young person reports to. The Keyworker will keep an eye on whoever is in his/her group to make sure progress and satisfaction exists. Where it doesn't - or where there are problems around a learner - the staff member may report the matter to the Officer. More important than this, if a learner has a problem which may affect his/her ability to train then they may 'self-refer'; make an appointment to the see the Officer who we employ full-time.

Our Student Support Officer is a skilled and experienced person who is very approachable and has a wide range of contacts to draw upon. The problems brought to the Officer can range from (eg) issues to do with; money, housing, health, drugs, abuse at home, discrimination etc. The Officer will treat your problem in confidence and will also help deal with the problem by contacting other professionals outside of Camden Jobtrain who you agree may be able to help.

Our Student Support Officer is also one of our 'Safeguarding' officers. It is their job to look at an issue which might be brought to their attention and decide whether it is a matter which means that the learner - as a young person - is possibly in danger. This could mean 'in danger' from other adults, or from other members of society or indeed, danger from harming themselves due to a problem they may have (eg. neglect, abuse).

Our Student Support Officer also supports Jobtrain's very own Student Council. This is made up of learners who have been voted by each of their projects to represent their interests, or raise common problems with the management of Jobtrain. At Jobtrain every learner has a voice and we help learners develop their confidence through the Council and through all the work we do.
